PETACH TIKVA, Israel, April  11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Can-Fite BioPharma Ltd. (NYSE MKT: CANF) (TASE: CFBI), a biotechnology company with a pipeline of proprietary small molecule drugs that address inflammatory  diseases, cancer, and sexual dysfunction, today reported new findings for its drug candidate, CF602, showing statistically significant full recovery from erectile dysfunction after one single dose treatment in a pre-clinical diabetic model. Can-Fite plans to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for CF602 in the fourth quarter of 2016 and plans to initiate a Phase I trial following IND approval.

In a recent study, CF602 induced a dose-dependent, linear effect in a diabetic mellitus rat model after treatment with one single dose of CF602. One hour after dosing, sexual function was measured. Statistically significant full recovery from erectile dysfunction took place in rats treated with a 500 µ/kg dose.

There is a significant segment of the erectile dysfunction market that is not addressed by PDE5 inhibitors, the class of drugs that are widely used in the market today. Due to CF602’s novel mechanism of action, it may provide benefits for patients who do not respond to PDE5 inhibitors, or cannot take PDE5 inhibitors due to contraindications.

Almaden Minerals Ltd. (NYSE: AAU) is an exploration stage company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development of mineral properties in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.  The company owns 100% of the Tuligtic project in Puebla State, Mexico.  Tuligtic covers the Ixtaca Gold-Silver Deposit, which was discovered by Almaden in 2010.  The deposit is an epithermal gold-silver deposit, mostly hosted by veins in carbonate units and crosscutting dykes with a minor component of disseminated mineralization hosted in overlying volcanic rocks.  The project is in a developed area of Mexico accessed by paved road and is roughly 20 kilometers from an industrial park with rail service.  Almaden has secured an option to purchase the Rock Creek Mill which is a 7,000 tpd mill which was only operated from September 2008 to November 2008 before being put on care and maintenance.  It will be dismantled and transported to Mexico for use on the Ixtaca project.

In February, the company reported partial assay results from the Ixtaca Zone exploration and development program which confirmed the continuity of the high grade core within the deposit.  The company will continue with the engineering work and studies that are needed to develop the project.

In January, the company filed on SEDAR the independent NI 43-101 Preliminary Economic Assessment Update Technical Report for Ixtaca.  The report showed a pre-tax NPV of $266 million and an internal rate of return of 39% based on an initial investment of $100.2 million with an assumed gold price of $1150/oz and silver at $16/oz.  The analysis assumes a production rate of 724k ounces of gold and 49 million ounces of silver and an operating cost of $684 per ounce of gold and $9.50 per ounce of silver.

Conclusions:

Almaden appears attractively priced relative to peers on an enterprise value to recoverable gold equivalent ounce basis.  As the company progresses toward developing the Ixtaca deposit, we would look for that discount to narrow which could lead to significant appreciation for investors.  We think that the shares can trade to $2-$3/share if they are able to close this valuation gap.

Acquired privately-held Jade Therapeutics, Inc. which was developing locally administered, polymer-based products designed to treat poorly-served ophthalmic indications.  The company’s proprietary, cross-linked, bio-erodible hyrdrogel technology has demonstrated a variety of unique and beneficial characteristics, whether employed alone or as a sustained-release drug-delivery vehicle.

Completed a public offering of common stock and warrants that generated $8.8 million to the company which will help fund the company’s clinical trials.

EyeGate reported interim data from the Phase 1b/2a trial for EGP-437 for macular edema, which suggested that iontophoresis can non-invasively deliver drug to the back of the eye.

The company received USPTO Notice of Allowance for two key patents relating to proprietary dexamethasone phosphate formulation and next generation iontophoretic delivery system.

Signed an exclusive, worldwide licensing agreement with a subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. for EGP-437 in the field of uveitis, and received an additional development milestone payment.  EyeGate is eligible to receive $32.5 million in milestone payments from Valeant.

 

Conclusions:

EyeGate is an interesting, development-stage company that should show clinical results by the end of the year which could lead to FDA action in the next year or so.  All 4 analysts who follow the company have a buy rating on the company and have a mean target price of $8.67 (almost 150% higher than the current price).
