Due Diligence for Investors in Rightscorp, Inc.
The company press release you will find linked below talks about the RIHT CEO addressing a meeting of the American Bar Association that occurred last week. We included a Barchart analysis that gives all the company statistics and important data as well as current charting details. Also linked below is the company form 10-Q that summarizes the financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2015 as well as details of an agreement the company entered into with Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC on September 29, 2015 in which Sony appointed RIHT as its agent to monitor the Internet for infringements of copyrights owned and/or controlled by Sony.
Our View: Rightscorp revenue keeps growing and should be near the $1 million level for the year ending December 31, 2014. The Internet and particularly peer to peer networks have drastically reduced the revenue stream of those that rely on residuals from intellectual property, especially those in the music and movie industries. RIHT is positioned at the forefront of the effort to recoup losses that clients have experienced due to consumers downloading these properties at no charge and no compensation for the intellectual property owners.
The simplified version of how the RIHT system works is: the company identifies someone illegally downloading intellectual property and notifies them and their Internet Provider of the problem. RIHT attempts to reach a monetary settlement with the offender. If no settlement is reached the IP company suspends the offenders account and legal action may be initiated. If a settlement is reached, RIHT splits the proceeds with the intellectual property owner according to a contractual formula.
The market potential for RIHT is very large. The ubiquitous crime of downloading music and movies for free reaches all corners of Americana. It is unfair to the owners of the music and movies, who often have large investments in the production of the intellectual property. We expect the RIHT revenue stream to continue its growth for as long as the company works at it.
